There Comes A Time.......
....in every child's life (or the majority) that they DECIDE to cut...yes CUT their own hair.
In my case (Melanie's)...a boy decided to cut my hair on picture day right before the pictures were taken. Ahhhh I had some lovely short crooked bangs. Just lovely! Good thing for retakes! I always hear stories of my friend's children cutting their hair and this and that. I never cut mine but probably because the boy in my class beat me to it...my mom was not very happy.
Well...it so happened that a few days ago......that time came. I didn't even realize or know that she did it until a day or so later. I know I am her mom....I should have seen it. Well...as the story goes, a few nights ago Maddie asked me if I would put her hair in a ton of braids. She wanted to sleep in them and wake up with the wavy look. Fine I agreed. I remember wondering why there was an area of shorter hair. But, since I was braiding and just doing them randomly...I didn't see the entire area at once. I thought man she has a lot of regrowth or baby hair coming in or something. I wasn't really worried...it was late I didn't put too much thought into it.
Well....as I was getting ready for church on Sunday Kevin asked me why I cut Madison's hair in the bathroom that he mainly uses. I was like.......um...I didn't. Than it hit me......did Madison cut her hair? I asked him how much and when he found it. (I never use that bathroom...always the master bathroom and he usually cleans it too.) Hm...it was all coming together now. He had found it when he came home from work after I had braided her hair. I am surprised she wanted me to braid it or touch her hair...would you want your mom to touch your hair after you cut it? Guess she didn't think it was a big deal. Hmmmmmm........... Well he showed me some of the hair and sure enough. When we asked her...she admited that she cut her hair. Well...she now has short hair....and the same haircut as a handful of her friends in the neighborhood.
Here are before photos...hard to see the real damage since she was fighting me when I wanted to take pictures. (it is pretty clear she cut it when you look at these...maybe she knew braids would hide it)

Doesn't she looked thrilled? Her hair is so cute! And..the best part sooo easy. I am thinking she is more in style than mommy! ;o) Daddy loves it because it is so easy. All you have to do is comb it after her bath and it looks great. Easy for when school starts. I was debating on getting her hair cut short. I had decided not to but I guess Madison had other plans. She loves all the attention and everyone comments on her hair wherever we go. My neighbor kept talking to me about having her hair cut like this...well now it is done. However, she didn't learn did she if everyone loves it? So we told her...if you cut it again....WE ARE SHAVING IT!!

No More Trainers - Yay For Maddie!
Daddy helped Maddie learn to ride without training wheels today. She did so well. We were so proud. She started out in the yard on her old bike..and she just took off. She did try her regular bigger bike after she mastered it but she still has some work to do. She can ride fine but it is way easier on the shorter smaller bike. Easier to put her feet down if she needs to. But, she threw her trainers in the trash and said she no longer needed them. (ahhhh our first baby is growing up...oh...and you should see her in the pool..this weekend she taught herself to go under water and swim...not far but hey it is a start. I am so proud considering we kept trying to get her to do this and finally mommy showed her how it was done and she tried it. Now she loves to do it constantly.)

Where Did This Come From?
I fished this huge beetle out of our pool on Thursday. How ironic that my friend fished one out of her pool in a different state on the same day. Good thing it wasn't moving. And...good thing I wasn't in the pool when this thing landed. I told Maddie to put her hand by it so I could show how big it was. Um...don't look too close...she has some long nails.

Guess Who Became All Domestic?
Me....Melanie! Okay who knows how long it will last. But, it took 33 years. Ha Ha...that is our joke anyway. I amazed myself doing things I said I would never do....and never cared to try.
Well...I am sure you are thinking what?
I made baby food....What? Yep...I made baby food for the first time and froze it. AND...I made jam. It was actually easy...and kind of fun. I definitely want to make more baby food and freeze it.
Kevin and I joke that someone took over my mind and body. I have done so much on maternity leave...and unfortunately I have to return to work in 1 1/2 weeks........ :o( It is weird..doing all this organizing, cleaning, cooking, and...making um...baby food and jam. Maybe that is what happens when you have more time to do those things.
