There Comes A Time.......

....in every child's life (or the majority) that they DECIDE to cut...yes CUT their own hair.

In my case (Melanie's)...a boy decided to cut my hair on picture day right before the pictures were taken. Ahhhh I had some lovely short crooked bangs. Just lovely! Good thing for retakes! I always hear stories of my friend's children cutting their hair and this and that. I never cut mine but probably because the boy in my class beat me to it...my mom was not very happy.

Well...it so happened that a few days ago......that time came. I didn't even realize or know that she did it until a day or so later. I know I am her mom....I should have seen it. Well...as the story goes, a few nights ago Maddie asked me if I would put her hair in a ton of braids. She wanted to sleep in them and wake up with the wavy look. Fine I agreed. I remember wondering why there was an area of shorter hair. But, since I was braiding and just doing them randomly...I didn't see the entire area at once. I thought man she has a lot of regrowth or baby hair coming in or something. I wasn't really worried...it was late I didn't put too much thought into it.

Well....as I was getting ready for church on Sunday Kevin asked me why I cut Madison's hair in the bathroom that he mainly uses. I was like.......um...I didn't. Than it hit me......did Madison cut her hair? I asked him how much and when he found it. (I never use that bathroom...always the master bathroom and he usually cleans it too.) Hm...it was all coming together now. He had found it when he came home from work after I had braided her hair. I am surprised she wanted me to braid it or touch her hair...would you want your mom to touch your hair after you cut it? Guess she didn't think it was a big deal. Hmmmmmm........... Well he showed me some of the hair and sure enough. When we asked her...she admited that she cut her hair. Well...she now has short hair....and the same haircut as a handful of her friends in the neighborhood.

Here are before photos...hard to see the real damage since she was fighting me when I wanted to take pictures. (it is pretty clear she cut it when you look at these...maybe she knew braids would hide it)

And...here are after photos

Doesn't she looked thrilled? Her hair is so cute! And..the best part sooo easy. I am thinking she is more in style than mommy! ;o) Daddy loves it because it is so easy. All you have to do is comb it after her bath and it looks great. Easy for when school starts. I was debating on getting her hair cut short. I had decided not to but I guess Madison had other plans. She loves all the attention and everyone comments on her hair wherever we go. My neighbor kept talking to me about having her hair cut like this...well now it is done. However, she didn't learn did she if everyone loves it? So we told her...if you cut it again....WE ARE SHAVING IT!!
